This cable connecting kit is for owners of pre-2017 2 or 6 speed bikes who wish to upgrade to post-2017 integrated derailleur shifters, or other aftermarket shifters.
On pre-2017 2- or 6-speed bikes, the derailleur gear cable runs in reverse direction from the chain pusher spring to the shifter, and the cable is secured via a binder screw in the shifter. However, on post-2017 bikes, the derailleur gear cable runs from the shifters and need to be joined before the chain pusher spring.
Whenever upgrading to newer derailleur shifters, or aftermarket shifters, we recommend using Brompton factory new style spring set or the cable connecting kit on this page.
This kit consisted of two pieces: A plastic cable stop, and an alloy cable joiner. The cable binder screws on the cable joiner are both on the outside for easier access. The plastic cable stop hooks onto the wire loop on the rear frame, preventing sideway movements of cable housing. Due to the hand brazed nature of Brompton bikes, there are individual frame differences such that a thin (included) double sided tape may be needed to secure the plastic cable stop.
