This extension guide nut is used on the C line for Sturmey Archer gear hubs fitted with mult-sprocket driver/freehub bodies. When the Sturmey Archer hubs are fitted with longer freehubs/drivers in the multi-sprocket applications, the hub axle will become too short for securing the chain tensioner. The extension guide nut effectively replaces the axle locknut that secrues the hub to the frame, allows the chain tensioner to be secured to this nut, using a separate hex nut, and serves as the guide nut for the indicator chain.

The extension nut is made from heat treated medium carbon steel, and chrome plated. 
The alloy lock nut is made from 7075 aluminum alloy, and hard anodized.
